Applecross sheep station in New Zealand is the fictional location for this spellbinding saga. We follow the fortunes of those who first settled here in the mid 1800s in a mix of true historical facts and pure fiction. Though Applecross itself may not exist, the Mackenzie Basin is indeed a real and beautiful part of New Zealand’s South Island.

In my opinion, a good historical novel needs strong, believable characters who come to life through a gripping storyline based on well-researched historical facts.

All about Amanda

I was born in Somerset, England. Along with Terry, my husband, I emigrated to New Zealand in 2008 and moved to the beautiful Mackenzie Basin where the idea for The Applecross Saga was born.

There was always a book in my head waiting to come out, but it took a chance visit to inspire me to finally put pen to paper. I regret that I have left it rather late in life to turn to writing as a career!

We moved recently to North Canterbury where I can still write while looking out over the flat plains to the snow-capped mountains beyond. It is a place where it is easy to find inspiration for stories of early pioneers, who made this unique place their home. We share our home with two rescued huntaway dogs, Ted and Hunter, some chickens, who are more ornamental than productive, ten acres of wild garden and the dark skies of the Southern Hemisphere.

When not writing, I ring church bells and enjoy photography, gardening and finding out about my family history. On lazy days, I get the knitting needles out.
