Had me in tears at the end, but the story was wonderfully written. A must read for lovers of family history. Look forward hopefully to the next enthralling novel in the life at McKenzie Basin.
‘Mixed Blessings’ is the fifth book in the Applecross saga, but it stands alone as a work of art! The lives of the characters are unfolded expertly, set in 19th century New Zealand and full of historical context, enhancing the storyline. The events determining people’s lives are sometimes dramatic, and sometimes ordinary, as in life. I became totally engrossed in the circumstances which led to the actions taken by the different characters. Sophia and James and their family and friends continue to enthral. I can’t wait for the next book, please!
